Bernadette "Bea" Madrid

November 15, 1937 — March 1, 2022

Bernadette (Bea) Madrid, 84, of San Ignacio, NM, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at home with her husband, Ely, and granddaughter Savannah Hoehne by her side. Bea was born on November 15, 1937 in Cedar Grove, NM to the home of Conrado Mora Chavez and Margarita Archibeque. She grew up in Cedar Grove, attended school in Stanley and Albuquerque, NM and later moved to Santa Rosa. Throughout her life Bea enjoyed raising her two sons, attending and supporting them in their many activities, participating in field trips as a chaperone, and being an active leader in the local 4-H club. For several years she drove the school bus route from Colonias and also held various jobs around the Santa Rosa area. Bea also enjoyed the many years she served as a precinct judge for the local elections. Bea’s greatest joy came from celebrating Christmas with her family and spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She enjoyed decorating, cooking, and baking all of the traditional Christmas treats, and nobody made better biscochitos, peanut brittle or tamales. She also had quite the green thumb and had a large collection of house plants and flowers in her makeshift greenhouse. Along with that she enjoyed planting and harvesting vegetables from her garden and sharing with friends and family. Bea was a member of the St. Rose of Lima parish and attended Mass regularly. She opened her home to host the Posadas for two years in a row. She also prayed the rosary on a daily basis and always made sure to say prayers for those in most need. Bea is preceded in death by her parents Conrado Mora Chavez and Margarita Archibeque and four brothers, Barney, Ricardo, Benito, Joseph, and Jesus “Jessie” Chavez. Bea is survived by Ely Madrid, her husband of 30 years, her children Greg Hoehne and wife Michele of Santa Fe, Gerald Hoehne and wife Camilla of Rio Rancho, step-children Linda Dobbin and husband Troy of Albuquerque, and Andrew Madrid and wife Agnes of San Antonio. Bea is also survived by her grandchildren, Matthew Hoehne (Danielle), Kaitlyn Hoehne, Savannah Hoehne, Raegan Hoehne, Gavin Hoehne, Kamryn Hoehne, Kiana Hoehne, Victoria Dobbin, Andrea Dobbin, Jacob Madrid, and Angelica Madrid and 4 great-grandchildren, along with her brothers, Ernesto Chavez and wife Rosie, Johnny Chavez, and sisters Lillian Gonzales, Mary Chavez, Teri Warren, and Rebecca Martinez, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Visitation will be Friday, March 4, 2022 from 1-5pm at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa. Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary will be Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 10am at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Father Christopher Bernabe. Bea will be laid to rest in the family plot at Saint Joseph Cemetery with Matthew Hoehne, Troy Dobbin, Andrew Madrid, Gary Gonzales, Santiago Romero and Ernie Chavez serving as Pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Gavin Hoehne, Ely Hoehne, Lucas Riojas, and Merle Guinn. Services are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 923 S. Third St., Santa Rosa, NM 88435. 575-472-3369.
