Bennie Griego

Maria Benedicta "Bennie" Garcia Griego, 85 of Santa Rosa, NM, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home on Thursday, March 22, 2018, following an illness.Bennie was born in Borica, NM to the home of Estevan Garcia and Amelia (Casaus) Garcia.  She attended school in Borica, NM and in Albuquerque, NM. She married Charlie A. Griego on April 23, 1983.  Bennie made her home in Santa Rosa where she worked in the hospitality industry for many years, retiring in 1992.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She spent a great deal of time with her family and friends.  In addition to the many happy hours spent with family, Bennie enjoyed embroidering, reading, working on crossword puzzles and dancing.  She also enjoyed listening to New Mexico music on 89.1 and watching Western movies.  Bennie's faith was very important to her and she was an active member of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church.Bennie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charlie in 1993, grandson Baby Cisco Baca, great-granddaughter Trudy Destiny, and her sons; Andres and Billy.She is survived by her sons; Joe (Betty), Al, Ambrosio (Margie), and Charles (Berna), daughters; Isabel, Esther (Tudy), Amelia (Ron), and Erlinda.  Bennie is also survived by her sister Alice, and her brothers; Desi (Virginia), Jose Maguin (Filomena), Estevan (Betty) and Frank, as well as  many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and numerous family and special friends.Rosary service will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 1:30 P.M. from Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Mass of Christian burial following with Father Christopher Bernabe officiating.  Interment will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery.Visitation will be Friday, March 23, 2018 from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M, and on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa.Serving as Pallbearers are Clifford, Joe, Ron, Bryan, Pamela, Ryan, Eric, Lorenzo and all Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.All arrangements have been entrusted to Chavez Funeral Home, 923 S.
