Alfonso "Al" Gomez

Alfonso “Al” Gomez, 79 of Santa Rosa, NM, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, December 25, 2021. Al was born on November 3, 1942 in Santa Rosa to Guadalupe Gomez and Rosa (Garcia) Gomez. Al was raised in Santa Rosa, where he also attended school. In his career, Al worked at the Truck Stops of America and for Stuckey’s, where he was also the manager. Al enjoyed singing, playing the guitar and listening to music. He loved nature and wildlife, and he liked to read and write stories. In his life, Al always kept Jesus Christ close to his heart and was a parishioner at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Being strong in his faith, Al was active in the Church choir, where he would sing and play the guitar with his friends. However, Al’s greatest joy came from the time he spent with his family and friends. Al is preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Betty, his son: Mark and his brothers: Wilfred Gomez and Richard Gomez. Al is survived by his son: Darrel (Angela) Gomez and his daughter: Marka Gomez, both of Santa Rosa, his grandchildren: Dathion (Amarissa) Gomez, Clarissa (Pat) Gomez, Darrel Gomez, Jr., Derrick (Maria) Gomez, and Mariah Lynch and his great-grandchildren: Andres Gomez, Amarissa Gomez, Derrick Gomez, Jr. and Ayden Velasquez. Al is also survived by his siblings: Fred (Pita) Gomez, Chris Gomez, Gilbert (Faby) Gomez, Georgia Gomez, Deborah (George) Lopez and Danny (Cindy) Gomez. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 29, 2021, from 1-6pm at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 11am at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with Dathion Gomez, Andres Gomez, Darrel Gomez, Derrick Gomez, Manuel Dodge, John Perea and Arthur Campos serving as pallbearers All services are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 923 S.
