Agustin Robert Lopez, 74 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 after an extended illness. Bobby was born October 27, 1950 in Fort Sumner to the home of Augustine and Macedonia (Barela) Lopez. Bobby grew up in Fort Sumner where he attended Fort Sumner Schools. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Marines where he served from July 1969 until his honorable discharge in April 1975. His military training included Counter Guerilla Warfare School. His citations include the National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Expert Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Following his military duty, Bobby worked in the Oil Fields in Farmington. He returned to Fort Sumner in 1991 to care for his parents. Bobby worked as maintenance and custodian for Fort Sumner Schools for several years. Bobby was a faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner where he served as an usher for many years.

Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, father Augustine Lopez in 1993, and mother Macedonia Lopez in 2009, two brothers Carlos Lopez in 1960, and Juan Lopez in 2003, two sisters Mary Alice Garcia in 1985 and Juanita Madrid in 2021. 

Bobby will be dearly missed by his son Gustavo Lopez, his grandchildren Michael Lopez and Olivia Lopez of Fort Sumner, stepsons Santos Zambrano, Ritchie Zambrano, and Hector Zambrano, his siblings, brothers Sonny Apodaca (Irene) of Clovis, Carlos Lopez (Brenda) of Fort Sumner, sisters Gloria Coronado of Albuquerque, Jean Broughton of Albuquerque, Deanna Martinez of Portales, and Angela Lucero (Gilbert) of Rio Rancho, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many close friends.

Rosary will be recited at 10:00 am Tuesday, January 7, 2025, the funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner, NM with Father Jacob Romero officiating. Interment with U.S. Marine's Military Honors will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Urn bearer will be Bobby's brother, Carlos Lopez.
