Abran Lucero

Abran Lucero, 63, of Portales, NM passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023.

Abran was born on January 1, 1960, in Santa Rosa, NM, the home of Jose Inez and Otilia (Salazar) Lucero. He attended school in Santa Rosa, graduating from Santa Rosa High School and attended UNM in Gallup. A lifelong catholic, Abran was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Abran served in the New Mexico National Guard and retired from a distinguished career in law enforcement, he started his law enforcement career with the Guadalupe County Sheriff Department and retired from the McKinley County Sheriff Department.

Abran is preceded in death by his daughter April O. Lucero-Olguin, his parents Jose Inez and Otilia Lucero, his brothers Epitacio, Jose Severo, Joseph, and Diego Lucero, and an uncle Jose Maria Lucero.

Survivors include his sons, Eli Lucero of Albuquerque, and Manuel Lucero of Espanola; granddaughters, Skylor McCallum (Andrew) of Portales, Avelina Maldonado and Hailey Chavez of Santa Rosa, Mylinh Lucero and Sterling Grice of Albuqerque, Payton and Nova Lucero of Gallup; great- grandchildren, Dean and Emma McCallum of Portales, son-in-law, Dennis Olguin of Santa Rosa, brothers, Robert Lucero (Angie) of Albuquerque and Mike Lucero (Lori) of Santa Rosa, and numerous nephews, nieces, family, and friends.

Visitation for family and friends will take place on Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 1 – 6pm at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa, and on Friday, March 31, 2023, one hour prior to the rosary at the church.

Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary will be Friday, March 31, 2023, at 10AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, immediately followed by The Mass of Christian Burial.  Interment will follow at Nuestra Senora de Refugio Cemetery in Puerto De Luna with the following serving as Pallbearers: Cristobal Lucero, Pete Lucero, Mike Lucero, Cisco Lucero, Jonathan Lucero, and Dennis Olguin.
