Abel G. Coronado

Abel G. Coronado, 83 of Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 12, 2024. He was born January 13, 1941 in Fort Sumner, NM to the home of Manuel and Rufina (Lopez) Coronado. Abel grew up in Fort Sumner and Melrose. 

Abel married Gloria Lopez on September 13, 1959 in Fort Sumner, NM. Abel served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. He enlisted on October 12, 1959 and was honorably discharged on October 11, 1963.

Abel and Gloria made their home in Albuquerque. Abel worked for the Albuquerque Fire Department and retired as a Lieutenant in 1987. He was a longtime member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Albuquerque, Knights of Columbus Council #8331 in Fort Sumner, American Legion, and Albuquerque Retired Firefighters. 

Abel enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, camping, and a good barbeque. He most loved spending time with his family.

Abel is preceded in death by his father Manuel Coronado in 1993, his mother Rufina Coronado in 2007, a brother Andres Coronado in 1931, a grandson Donald H. Coronado Jr., in 1981, and a son Mark S. Coronado in 2015.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Gloria E. Coronado of the family home in Albuquerque, three children Connie A. Trujillo of Albuquerque, Donald H. Coronado of Albuquerque, and Lisa E. Coronado of Albuqueque, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, two sisters, Rosa Sena of Melrose, NM and Juanita Harris of Clovis, NM.

Holy Rosary will be recited at 9:30 am Saturday, June 1, 2024, the funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Burial of cremains with military honors will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery.
