Ignacio Chavez

Ignacio Chavez, age 97, passed away on May 9, 2008 at his son Berto’s home in Edgewood following an illness. Ignacio was born March 20, 1911 in San Ignacio, NM to the home of Severo and Genoveva Romero Chavez. He served in the United State Army from March 8, 1942 until January 5, 1946 and came back home and married Soledad Martinez on January 28, 1946. Ignacio worked for State Highway Department and retired in 1968. He and his wife were longtime Guadalupe County Ranchers. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and one of the two remaining members of the San Jose Society. Ignacio was also a member of the Campos Senior Citizens where he enjoyed countless hours playing pool and bingo. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Soledad, son; Ignacio “Nash” Chavez, Jr., brothers and sisters; Tita Moreno, Piedad Sanchez, Bonifacio Chavez, Severo Chavez Jr.,Berto Chavez and Lorenzo Chavez. Survivors include his children; Viola Macias and husband Juan of Santa Rosa, Berto Chavez and wife Julia of Edgewood, Joe Robert Chavez and wife Linda also of Edgewood and his very special caregiver; Robert “Bobby” Trujillo. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters; Dulcinea Sanchez of Bosque Farms, Rosabella Page of Santa Rosa, Tony Chavez of Albuquerque and Gilbert Chavez of Las Vegas, NM, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Monday, May 12, at 7:00 PM from St. Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 13, at 10:00 AM with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great grandsons; Edward Romero, Ruben Chavez, Berto Chavez, Jr., Brian Chavez, Florencio Olguin, Jr., Andres Olguin and Berto Chavez, III. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be all his friends from the Campos Senior Citizens Center. All services are entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa. www.chavezfuneralhome.com
