Yvonne Marie Gallegos, age 20, passed away February 10, 2007 in Santa Rosa. Yvonne was born August 22, 1986 in Santa Rosa to the home of Roddy and Maryetta Chavez Gallegos. She attended Pecos Schools and Santa Rosa Consolidated Schools graduating in 2004. During High School Yvonne participated in sports and was a member of the Lady Lions 2004 Class AA State Basketball Runner up team. Following graduation she attended Highlands University where she was a member of the Highlands Cowgirl Basketball team for the past two years. She represented NM at the Junior Basketball Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia in 2001. She received numerous basketball awards. She was attending Highlands University where she was studying to become an Athletic Trainer. During the summer months Yvonne worked as a Life Guard at Park Lake in Santa Rosa and was also a certified CPR, First Aid and swimming instructor. Yvonne enjoyed music, swimming, softball, and beach volleyball. Yvonne was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Juan and Edwina Chavez. Survivors include her parents Roddy and Maryetta Gallegos of Santa Rosa; a brother R.J. Gallegos, paternal grandparents Leroy and Eilleen Gallegos of Puerto De Luna, NM; aunts Carol (Ernest) Tapia, Rose (Leroy) Chavez all of Santa Rosa, Jezzette Gallegos of Puerto De Luna; Jeatonne (Jason) Serrano of Edgewood, NM; Jocelyn (Clarence) Sanchez of Las Vegas, NM; uncle John (Paula) Gallegos of Las Cruces, NM; paternal great-grandfather Sotero (Linda) Sanchez of Rio Rancho, NM and paternal great-grandmother Petra Sanchez of Rio Rancho along with numerous other relatives and many friends from Pecos, Santa Rosa, and Highlands University. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2007 from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, NM. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2007 from the Santa Rosa High School Gymnasium with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa. Pallbearers will be Anthony Ortega, Juan Barela, Moises Barela, John Martinez, Jonathan Tenorio, and Israel Perea-Gonzales. Honorary bearers will include the 2004 Santa Rosa Girls Basketball team, Coach Joseph Esquibel; SRHS Class of 2004 and the Highlands Cowgirls Basketball team and coaching staff.
