Alvina Martinez, age 97, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2010 at her home in San Ignacio. Alvina was born on September 5, 1913 in San Ignacio to the home of Teodoro and Emilia (Sena) Madrid. Alvina married Jose Efren Martinez on February 3, 1937 in Santa Rosa. She was a member of the San Ignacio Church in San Ignacio and St. Rose of Lima Church in Santa Rosa. Alvina loved to sing and often sang or prayed the rosary while leading processions to the old church in San Ignacio. She loved to sew, cook, bake and play the harmonica. She was a loving mother, grandmother and she truly loved being around her kids and grandkids. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jose Efren Martinez, sons; Jose Martinez, Jr., and Albert Martinez, her grandson; Freddy Martinez, brothers and sisters; Cleofitas Gallegos, Lugardita Ortiz, Rita Romero, Margarito Madrid, Benjamin Madrid, Juan Pablo Madrid and Cleodovis Madrid and son in law, Paublin Romero. Survivors include her children; Emma Romero of San Ignacio, Rose Galvan and husband Arturo of Dallas, TX, Roman Martinez and wife Odelia of Santa Rosa, Ely Madrid and wife Bernadette of San Ignacio, Johnny Martinez and wife Irene of Dallas, TX, Rudy Madrid and wife Martha of Denver, CO, Jimmy Martinez and wife Marcia of Albuquerque, Herman Martinez and wife Debbie of Santa Rosa and Ted Martinez and wife Angie of Santa Rosa. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Friday, November 19, at 6:00 PM from St. Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 20, at 10:00 AM also from St. Rose Church with Father Joseph Thomas, CMI officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa. Serving as Pallbearers for Mrs. Martinez will be her grandsons; Arthur Martinez, Adam Madrid, Andrew Madrid, Mark Martinez, T.J. Martinez, Johnny Joe Martinez, Abel Martinez, Arthur Galvan, Greg Galvan, Manuel Galvan, Wayne Martinez and Ricardo Martinez.
