Steve Paul Anthony Garcia, 40, was welcomed into heaven on the morning of June 22, 2007. He was born April 1, 1967 in Albuquerque. Steve attended MacArthur Elementary, Garfield Middle School and graduated from Valley High School with honors. Steve attended UNM and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing and bowling with his friends and family. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. Steve worked for Intel for a short time; he also worked for ADS Technologies in Dallas, TX; and AMEC Test Laboratory in Albuquerque. Steve was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Albuquerque. He loved to play the saxaphone and was a member of “La Gavia” band in Albuquerque. Steve is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Jesse and Eugenia Gerhardt, paternal grandparents Ezequiel and Victoriana Garcia, two uncles Fred Gerhardt, Luis Garcia, and an aunt Josephina Nieto. Survivors include his parents Ezequiel and Oma Garcia of Albuquerque; three brothers Gene Garcia of Santa Rosa, Danny (Mary) Garcia of Salt Lake City, UT, Leonard (Delia) Garcia of Las Vegas, NM and one sister Vicki and husband Mike Dare of Broomfield, CO also surviving is a brother Angus Ruben of Laguna, NM. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday, June 24, 2007 from Nuestra Senora de Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto De Luna, NM. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 25, 2007 from the church with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at El Calvario Cemetery in Puerto De Luna. Pallbearers will include Leonard Garcia, Danny Garcia, Gene Garcia, Paul Martinez, Angus Ruben, Mike Dare and Eddie Mefford. Honorary bearers will be Mark Miera, Mike Prairie, Mark Montano, all his friends and cousins and the Angus Ruben family from Laguna. The family would like to thank Vista Hospice for their support and loving care during the last few weeks of Stevie’s life. They would also like to thank the nurses at Lovelace Hospital who treated Steve with respect and loving care. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Vista Care Foundation in Stevie’s name. Stevie had many blood transfusions in the last few months of his life and the family encourages people to become or continue to be blood donors.
