William Jeff Kyle, 47 of Fort Sumner, NM died Saturday, November 18, 2006 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX following a courageous battle with cancer. William was born September 25, 1959 in Fort Sumner to the home of Vernon G. “Red” and Leila (Wilmeth) Kyle. He attended Fort Sumner schools and graduated with the class of 1978 he also attended South Plains College at Levelland, TX for two years. William married Elizabeth June Briggs on May 10, 1986 at Sandia Park, NM. William was raised on the Buckeye ranch at Fort Sumner where his father worked for 33 years, he later worked for the Buckeye several years, two years at S. H. & B. Geo Tech. Engineers in Albuquerque and for the past 17 ½ years he was the Water Manager for the Fort Sumner Irrigation District. Billy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner, a Mason with Mount Moriah Lodge in Fort Sumner, a past Board of Director with the NM Quarter Horse Association, lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He was very active with the youth of Fort Sumner he served four years as secretary of the Fort Sumner School board, volunteered as a referee with the school, served on the De Baca County Fair Board and was 4-H Leader for over 10 years. William Jeff was preceded in death by his father V.G. “Red” Kyle in 2004, his maternal grandparents Ross and Leila Wilmeth, and his paternal grandmother Edna Kyle. William was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed by his wife June Kyle, son Scott Kyle, daughters Kari Kyle and Courtney Kyle of the family home in Fort Sumner; his mother Leila Kyle of Amarillo; sister Sandra Ione Mixon and husband Terry of Amarillo, TX; brothers Marshall Kyle and wife Phyllis of Groesbeck, TX and Michael “Pete” Kyle and wife Tamra of Whitesboro, TX. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 20, 2006 from the First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner with Pastor Keith Niehaus, Rev. Monty Leavell, and Mr. Gary Good officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike West, Charlie West, William Spitz, Joe Gammill, J.O. Achen, and Scott Davenport.
