Gladys Marady Gibson, 80 a longtime Fort Sumner resident died Saturday, August 12, 2006 at Farwell Convalescent Center in Farwell, TX following an illness. Gladys was born August 29, 1925 in Altus, Oklahoma to the home of Ike and Ada Long. She attended school in Hugo, Oklahoma and was raised at Melrose, NM. Gladys married Dais “Bud” Gibson on December 31, 1949. The made their home in Fort Sumner from 1949-1966 and 1985-1999. She worked as a restaurant cook in Melrose, Farwell, Hub, TX and Fort Sumner, NM. Gladys was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening and spending time with her family. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Bud Gibson in 1999; three infant children, and a son, Billy Gibson; her parents; and a sister Nora Barnett. Survivors include a daughter Josie Stephenson and husband Mickey of Clovis; two sons Orbry Gibson and wife Sue of Portales, NM; Henry Gibson of Lompoc, CA. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2006 from Fort Sumner Cemetery with Rev. Garlan Hughes officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10am to 6pm and Wednesday from 9am to service time.
