Margaret L. Racel, 101 a longtime Guadalupe County educator died Thursday, December 28, 2006 in Albuquerque. Mrs. Racel was born October 22, 1905 in Tucumcari, NM the daughter of Juan B. Hinojos and Theresa Consuelo Rayitos Hinojos Patron. She was reared in Puerto De Luna and Santa Rosa. After Margaret graduated from High School she began her teaching career under the normal school system, which allowed her to acquire a teaching certificate without attending college. Her first teaching job was in Puerto De Luna. She attended Normal University (Now Highlands), and the University of New Mexico where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She taught for 47 years at Puerto De Luna, Pastura, and Santa Rosa. She was a member of the National Education Association and St. Rose of Lima Parish in Santa Rosa. She enjoyed playing bridge. Margaret married Frank Racel and following their marriage they moved to Chicago where Frank attended Coyne Electrical School. After Frank’s graduation they moved back to Santa Rosa and Margaret returned to teaching. Mrs. Racel was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank G. Racel Sr., five sisters Frances Brasher, Florence Coleman, Zola Golembeski, Ella Phinney, Rena Jones; a brother Juan Hinojos Jr. and grandson Benton W. Racel. Survivors include three sons Frank Racel Jr. and wife Leta of Los Angeles, CA; Eddie Racel and wife Dolores of Roanoke, VA; Robert Racel and wife Charlotte of Edgewood, ten grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at on Wednesday, January 3, at 11:00 AM from St. Rose of Lima Church in Santa Rosa with Father John Brasher officiating.
