Funeral: 2PM Tuesday 1/29/07 Judy Crook, 89 a longtime Fort Sumner resident died Friday, January 26, 2007 at Odyssey Healthcare Hospice in Amarillo, TX following an illness. Judy was born June 30, 1917 at Route Five Doniphan, Missouri to the home of Charles Sidney Sawyer and the former Nellie Ann Thompson. She attended school at Route Five Doniphan, MO. Judy married Arnot Raymond Crook on October 8, 1934 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She attended nursing school at Poplar Bluff, Missouri and in 1962 received her Licensed Practical Nurse certification. She worked as a nurse at Missouri Pacific Hospital and Frisco Railroad Hospital in St. Louis, MO from 1962-1964. In 1965 Judy moved her family to Artesia, NM where she worked at Artesia General Hospital until 1969. The family made their home in Fort Sumner in 1969 where Judy worked 22 years as an LPN Night Charge Nurse for the Pecos Valley Care Center and also worked for De Baca General Hospital and the Robin’s Nest Nursing Home in Melrose. She retired in 1991. While living in Missouri, Judy was a member Good Hope General Baptist Church. In Fort Sumner Judy was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church where she was a member of the funeral meal committee and active in her Sunday School Class. She attended the Fort Sumner Senior Citizens Center. For the past 11 years Judy made her home in Amarillo, TX with her son Claude. Judy enjoyed quilting, gardening, flowers, loved to read and entertain her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnot Raymond Crook in 1976 and a son Gordon Raymond Crook in 1993. Survivors include two daughters Priscilla Clippard and husband Charles of Advance, MO; Nell Haider of Roswell, NM; two sons Paul Crook of Colorado and Claude Crook of Amarillo, TX; one sister Sharon Sladky of Poplar Bluff, MO. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 8 great-greatgrandchildren and two nephews David Sladky and Charles Thompson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 30, 2007 from the Fist Baptist Church in Fort Sumner. Pastor Coy Brewer will officiate. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Clippard, Kyle Crook, Clint Haider, Keith Crook, Joel Fields, Mark Haider, Alex Urbina, and Bryan Vallance. Honorary bearers will be Aaron Vallance, Cris Haider, David Bailey and Brian Fields. Visitation will be Monday from 1PM to 6PM and Tuesday from 10AM to 12 noon at the funeral home .
