Richard Sandoval, age 70, passed away on May 23, 2010 at an Albuquerque Hospital following an illness. Richard was born on February 12, 1940 in Dilia, NM to the late Carlos Sandoval and Dolores Nelson Sandoval. He attended and graduated from Santa Rosa High School. On October of 1962 he married Erlinda Griego in Santa Rosa. They moved to Tucumcari where they made their home for 40 years and where they raised their children. Richard worked for the City of Tucumcari for 13 years. He then went to work construction as a carpenter and later as a heavy equipment operator. Richard worked for several construction companies throughout the state of New Mexico. He was also a ASA Softball Umpire for over 25 years. After retiring from construction he went to work with E & L Escort from Tucumcari, delivering mobile homes all over New Mexico as well as out of state. In 2003 Richard and Erlinda moved back to Santa Rosa and have been making Santa Rosa their home for the past 7 years. In Santa Rosa Richard worked as a Security Guard for Wakenhut Security Services. He enjoyed playing pool at the Campos Senior Center with his brother in law Pablo and loved to go fishing. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish. Richard will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and his willingness to help others. Richard never met a stranger. Richard is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers; Ben Sandoval, Trancito Sandoval, Arthur Sandoval, Joe Chris Sandoval and his sister; Priscilla Sandoval. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Erlinda of the family home in Santa Rosa. His children; Eric Sandoval of Santa Rosa, Jeff Sandoval of Albuquerque and Patti Sandoval of Rio Rancho, his grandchildren; Chris Sandoval and wife Deanne of Pueblo, CO, Erica Sandoval of El Paso, TX, Xaviear Armijo of Corrales, Areyana Armijo of Rio Rancho, Luciano Ricardo Sandoval of Rio Rancho, great grandchildren; Devon Sandoval and Jenna Rae Sandoval both of Pueblo, CO. Also surviving are his brother and sisters; Jose Adan Sandoval and wife Ruby of Las Vegas, NV, Tina Maestas of Tucumcari, Gloria Guevarra of Albuquerque and Thyra Sandoval of Santa Fe, Sister’s in Law; Cordelia Sandoval of Dilia, Mamye Sandoval of Santa Rosa, Dinah Sandoval of Tucumcari and Toni Romero also of Tucumcari, numerous brother’s and sister’s in law, nieces, nephews cousins and a host of friends and relatives. Rosary services will be held on Wednesday, May 26, at 7:00 from St. Rose of Lima Church. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 27, at 11:00 AM also from St. Rose of Lima Church with Father Joseph Thomas, CMI officiating and Richard’s cousin; Deacon Bob Welch assisting. Burial of cremains will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard’s Godchildren; Lloyd Maestas, Mark Maestas, Charlie Montano, Ray Welch, Jacob Grant, George Romero, Julie Baca, Florence Gomez, Amanda Apodaca, Georgette Mascarenas and Lenny Sandoval.
