Jacob L. Piedra, 22 of Fort Sumner, NM died Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, TX from injuries suffered in a pedestrian/auto accident near Hereford, TX on Saturday evening. Jacob was assisting a motorist at an accident scene when he was struck by another automobile. Jacob was born October 16, 1984 in San Antonio, TX the son of Ricardo F. Piedra and Christine Luna Piedra. He lived in Bonito Springs, Florida; Tulia, Texas and Salina, Kansas before making his home in Fort Sumner in 2003. Jacob completed his senior year at Fort Sumner High School where he graduated in 2004. While in high school he participated in school plays and talent shows where he loved to sing. He was currently enrolled in Cosmetology school. Jacob was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner. He was a very giving person who always kept everyone laughing and was not one to sit around. Jacob was an organ donor and his gift made it possible for four people including his aunt in Florida to receive the gift of life. Survivors include his parents Ricardo and Christine Piedra of Fort Sumner; four brothers Jesse Piedra and Christine of San Antonio, TX; David Piedra and wife Amy of Dyton, Kansas; Ricardo L. Piedra and wife Linda of Fort Sumner; James Piedra and wife Mikah of Canyon, TX; two sisters Vicky Croney and husband Russell of Fort Sumner, Meaghan Hernandez and husband Jose of Fort Sumner and Peggy Tijerina who was raised as a sister also of Fort Sumner. Other survivors include maternal grandmother Lupe Luna of Bonito Springs, Florida and paternal grandmother Severa Piedra of San Antonio, Texas along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 17, 2006 from the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner with Rev. Coy Brewer officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be Thursday from 1pm to 6pm at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be his brothers. Honorary bearers will be all his family and friends.
