Nelda Capps

Nelda Eugene Capps, 71 of Santa Rosa, NM died Saturday, May 22, 2010 at her home following an illness. Nelda was born February 20, 1939 in Dickens County; Spur, Texas to the home of Marshall Alldrege and the former Mary Parker. She attended school in Crosbyton, Texas. Nelda made her home in Santa Rosa in 1969. She married Bill Capps on April 20, 1972 in Santa Rosa. Nelda worked for several years as a waitress at several Santa Rosa restaurants. For the past 32 years she operated a home-based child care center. She was known as “Grandma Nelda” by all the children she cared for over the years. Nelda was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Santa Rosa where she was always available to help anyone in need. She also served many years as secretary of the Guadalupe County Fair Board. She was an accomplished seamstress and over the years has sewn countless wedding, prom and Quinciniera dresses. One year she also made cheerleading outfits for a summer cheerleading camp. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. According to her family she was the “Rock” of her family. Nelda is preceded in death by her parents; a son Shannon Capps in 1987 and a grandson Russell Patterson in 2007. Survivors include her husband Bill Capps of the home in Santa Rosa; three daughters Kathy Benefield and husband Robert of Los Lunas, NM; Freda Hobbs of Santa Rosa; Susie Sawyers of Ohio; two sons Jay Hobbs and wife Sharon of Santa Rosa and Sperlan Hobbs and wife Connie of Rolla, MO. Also surviving are two sisters Sue Boggs of Midelothian, TX and Mary Wampler of Santa Rosa, one brother Delwin Alldrege and wife Roxanne of Cottonwood, CA along with 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren several nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Visitation hours will be Monday from 1PM to 4PM and Tuesday from 10 AM to 6PM at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 from the Assembly of God Church, 725 El Rito Street; Santa Rosa, NM with Pastor Donald Hay officiating. Burial will follow in the Cuervo Protestant Cemetery, Cuervo, NM. Pallbearers will include Ken Bradley, Ricky Sawyers, Leroy Lucero, Shannon Ray, Mark Micelli and Daryl Hobbs. Honorary bearers will include Ethan Patterson, Tyler Hobbs and all the children she cared for over the years.
