Francis Scholl, 73, of Morganton, NC departed this life on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, NC following a brief illness. Born October 16, 1936 in Crosby County, TX, she was the daughter of the late David Shoemaker and Velma Springer Hunt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Martha Shoemaker and her husband, Cleo Penland. She graduated from Ft Sumner High School in 1954, Hederichs Beauty College in 1961, and Western South Dakota Technical College in 1993 with an L.P.N. certification. She was a nurse at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center. Francis was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and a volunteer at Burke United Christian Ministries. She was an avid reader, talented seamstress and crafter. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Francis is survived by a son, Bobby Penland and wife, Betsy, of Morganton, NC; daughters, Debi Cutter and husband, Randy, of Claremont, NC; and Davi Ledet and husband, Mark, of Hernando, Mississippi; grandchildren, Bobby, David, Francis, Miranda, Lauren, Drew, Celeste, and Elise; great-grandchildren, Aubree and Lance; and brothers, James and Roy Shoemaker, both of New Mexico. A memorial service was held March 14, 2010 at Grace Episcopal Church with Rev. Bruce Walker officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 9, 2010 at the Fort Sumner Cemetery, Fort Sumner, NM.
