Marilyn E. Fleming, 79 of Fort Sumner, NM died Friday, December 25, 2009 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis following an extended illness. She was born June 15, 1930 in Alamogordo, NM the daughter of Lucious E. and Agnes (Coleman) Edgington. Marilyn attended primary school at Alamogordo and Cloudcroft, NM and completed her secondary education at Loretto Academy in El Paso, TX where she graduated in 1949. She later attended Webster Women’s College in St. Louis, MO where she received her Bachelor Degree in Home Economics. Marilyn taught school for a few years in Gary, Indiana and Alamogordo, NM. She lived most of her life in Alamogordo, NM. She made her home for several years with her daughter Cindy in Texas. In 1990 she moved to Clovis to live with her daughter Kathleen. In 1998 she moved with Kathleen’s family to the ranch north of Fort Sumner. Marilyn was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Alamogordo, NM where she was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was also a past member of the American Association of University Women. Marilyn was an accomplished artist who worked with pastels. She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister Ellie Clayton and an uncle Harold Coleman. Survivors include three daughters Kathleen and husband Larry Reagan of Fort Sumner; Cynthia and Husband Larry Laatsch of Pas Christian, MS; Sharon Fleming and husband Vic Pestrak of Goodlettsville, TN; one son Michael Fleming of Las Cruces, NM; six grandchildren Patrick Reagan of Stillwater, OK; Sean Reagan of Fort Sumner; Julian Laatsch of Pas Christian, MS; Ian Pestrak of Goodlettsville, TN; Melissa Hill of Austin, TX; and Shauna Hill and husband David Estrada of Chihuahua, Mexico. Also surviving are three nieces Molly Schweers of Fort Myers, FL; Becky Clayton of Tularosa, NM; and Laura Clayton of Las Cruces, NM. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 29, 2009 from the First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner, NM with Rev. Keith Niehaus and Deacon Edward Sena officiating.
