Louisa Chavez, 90 of Santa Rosa died Saturday, August 05, 2006 in Albuquerque following an illness. Louisa was born June 8, 1916 in Puerto De Luna, NM to the home of Pedro Luna and the former Pablita Padilla. She was raised and attended school in Puerto de Luna and Santa Rosa, NM. She graduated from Santa Rosa High School and attended college at Las Vegas, NM for two years. Louisa taught school at Puerto de Luna for one year. She married Pedro Chavez on June 18, 1935 in Puerto De Luna. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Campos Senior Citizens Center. Louisa was preceded in death by her husband Pedro Chavez in 1990; two brothers Emilio Luna and Frank Luna and three sisters Margarita L. Martinez., Epimenia Campos and Mela Paiz. Louisa made her home in Albuquerque in 1994 where she attended Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Survivors include four daughters Ida Ortiz and husband Larry, Vivian Maestas and husband Nazario, and Elizabeth Chavez all of Albuquerque, Patricia Chavez of Algodones; six sons Ron Chavez of Taos; Santiago Chavez and wife Lin of Carson City, NV; Charlie Chavez of Redwood City, CA; Jerry Chavez and wife Ramona of Morgen Hill, CA; Harry Chavez and wife Nadine of Floresville, TX; Richard Chavez and wife Aidia of San Antonio, TX. Also surviving are 25 Grandchildren 22 Great-grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2006 with the Funeral Mass following at 11:00 a.m. from Nuestra Senora de Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto De Luna, NM. Burial will follow at El Calvario Cemetery in Puerto de Luna. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Leonard Ortiz, Rico Ortiz, Paul Maestas, Brian Maestas, David Chavez, Robert Chavez, Mike Chavez, and Louie Montoya. Honorary bearers will be all her grandchildren.
