Callie Belle Herring, age 66 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away at her home Monday, March 29, 2010 following an illness. Callie was born October 10, 1943 in Childress, TX to the home of Therman and Goldie (Scates) Tyler. She grew up and attended schools in the Artesia/Roswell area. In 1971 Callie made her home in Fort Sumner. Callie married L.R. "Kildee" Herring on November 8, 1974 at Hagerman, NM. Callie worked for Levi Strauss, in electronics, and painting houses. She enjoyed Fishing, gambling, and picking asparagus. Callie enjoyed traveling the United States, She and Kildee went to Yuma, AZ every winter for 9 years. Callie was a member of the Fort Sumner Church of Christ, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in both Roswell and Fort Sumner. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband L.R. "Kildee" Herring in March of 2009; a son Chris Meadows in January of 2009; three brothers Tom, Harrell, and Earl Tyler; and two sisters, Iona Ketchell and Lou Etta Hignight. Survivors include her daughter Karen Foster and husband Lee of Fort Sumner, NM; a son Billy Meadows and wife Peggy of Big Spring, TX; a stepson Pat Herring and wife Debbie of Lubbock, TX; and a daughter-in-law Marie Meadows of Roswell, NM; three sisters, Maudie Mahan and Husband Leonard ,Mary Ann Rogers, and Annie Strobal all of Roswell, NM; two brothers, Donald Tyler and wife Joan of Roswell, NM and Aubrey Tyler and wife Martha of Dallas, TX; along with 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, April 1, 2010 from the Fort Sumner Church of Christ with Mr. Jessie Ortiz officiating. Burial will follow in the Herring family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Travis Foster, Lewis Meadows, Chris Meadows, Marie Meadows, Bill Bohanon, and Jack Winn.
