Margrete Vick Walker, 94 of Fort Sumner, NM died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Retirement Ranch in Clovis, NM following an illness. Margrete was born June 28, 1915 in Pottsville, Hamilton County, TX to the home of Jess Oren Vick and the former Amelia Carolina Haralson. She was reared and attended school in Lubbock and Big Spring, TX. She moved to Fort Sumner in 1932 where she attended high school. She married George Henry Walker December 24, 1933 in Lubbock. They made their home in Fort Sumner where she worked as a seamstress at DeFoor’s Cleaners, Family Laundry and City Laundry. Margrete was a longtime member of the Fort Sumner Church of Christ, a member and past president of the Fort Sumner Woman’s Club, Ft. Sumner Needle Point Guild and the Valley Extension Club. She enjoyed gardening and oil painting with the Whiteman Painting group, Bessie Boren and Edwin Lobley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband 68 years George Walker in 2001; a granddaughter Kelly DeArmond; five brothers Rex, Horace, Melvin, Dick and Carl Vick who died February 24, 2010. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Survivors include four daughters Loretta Turnbow and husband Earl of Fort Sumner; Lorene Hines and husband Bob of La Grande, OR; Betty DeArmond and husband Jimmy of Amarillo, TX; Patricia Marshall and husband Tommy of Fort Sumner; a son Bill Walker and wife Judy of Abilene, TX. Also surviving is a brother J.O. Vick and wife Bonnie of Santa Rosa, NM, a sister Bobbie Franks and husband Donald of Fort Sumner, two sisters-in-law Bernadette Vick of Clovis and Betty Jo Vick of Fort Sumner, 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 10, 2010 from the Fort Sumner Church of Christ with Mr. Skip Clark and Mr. Gary Good officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Robert Hines, Jeff Hines, Tim Hines, Casey Turnbow, Taylor Turnbow, Patrick Turnbow, Brad Walker, Scott Marshall and Keith Marshall.
