Long-time resident and devoted Holy Cross Church Parishioner, Zenaida Sanchez Alirez age 69, entered eternal rest on Aug. 20th, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center, Las Cruces, NM. Zenaida was born on October 12, 1940 in Pinos Wells, NM. Zenaida battled a rare form of pneumonia for a couple of weeks before her passing. Zenaida is survived by her husband and childhood sweetheart, of 49 years, Leo Alirez, and daughters Sylvia and Leonna Alirez, as well as two grandsons Matthew Licon and Jacob Villalobos, and two granddaughters Rae Marie Licon and Samantha Serna, and grandson-in-law Abe Serna. Zenaida was preceded in death by her parents. Zenaida’s life is remembered by her vibrant love of family and friends, as well as her joy of gardening and spending leisure time in Corona, NM and the tranquil country atmosphere she appreciated so much. She often expressed her appreciation of the simple things in life as well as her hopes and dreams. The fondest memories of Zenaida are her radiant smile and warm-caring presence wherever you encountered her. The many loved family and friends were a testimony of her life. Services will be held on Aug. 24, 2010 in Corona, NM at Saint Theresa Church. The rosary will be at 1pm followed by mass and burial at Corona Cemetery with Father Franklin officiating. A memorial rosary will be held on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 7:00 PM from Holy Cross Catholic Church in Las Cruces. Serving as Pallbearers are: Norbert Chavez, Matthew Licon, Matthew Lucero, Richard Perea, Jacob Villalobos, and James Hendon. Honorary Pallbearers: Sammy Lucero, Ralph Chavez, Toby Sanchez, and Abe Serna. All services for Mrs. Alirez were entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
