El Veda Spitz, 90 of Clovis, NM died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Retirement Ranches of Clovis, NM following an illness. She was born February 22, 1920 in Pike, OK to the home of John Robert and Daisy (Loving) DeFoor. El Veda traveled with her family to Turkey, TX and later to House, NM in a covered wagon. She attended and graduated from House High School. She married John F. “Frank” Spitz on February 24, 1941. She worked for Drs. Chesney and I.D. Worrell for 16 ½ years; she later worked for Cannon Air Force Base Optical; Sears Optical and also owned and operated her own optical shop in Clovis retiring in 1979. She was a devoted member of St. James Episcopal Church in Clovis; a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and Esa Beta Phi Chapter. El Veda made her home in Fort Sumner from 1940 to 1949 before moving to Clovis. She enjoyed cooking and planning family reunions. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank Spitz; her parents John and Daisy DeFoor; a daughter El Wanda “Binky” Dale Spitz; four brothers Elmer DeFoor, Gradon DeFoor, John Ray DeFoor, Clyde DeFoor and a sister Syble Spitz Hendrix. El Veda was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by her daughter Gayle Telshaw and husband Brad of Clovis, NM; a sister LaVon Haga and husband Bud of Clovis; a granddaughter Kim Devou and husband Donavan of Clovis; grandson David Telshaw of Dallas, TX; great-granddaughters Amber Barnett and Mikihla Robles of Clovis; Larrisa Barnett of Clovis; great-grandsons Jett Telshaw and Jace Telshaw of Lewisville, TX; step-grandchildren Har Ley Devou, Austin Devou, Breanna Devou all of Clovis; brother-in-law Eddie Spitz and wife Norma Jean of Fort Sumner; sisters-in-law Daisy DeFoor of Phoenix, AZ and Ada Mae DeFoor of Clovis; along with several beloved nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, August 27, 2010 from Fort Sumner Cemetery with Alan Brockmeier officiating. Pallbearers will be David Telshaw, Dennis DeFoor, Bruce DeFoor, Terrill DeFoor, Ferrill DeFoor, Kip DeFoor and Colter DeFoor. Honorary bearers will be Bud Haga, Eddie Spitz and Donavan Devou.
