Juan Romero, 77 of Clovis, NM died Monday, August 2, 2010 in a Lubbock, TX hospital following an illness. He was born October 20, 1932 in Puerto De Luna, NM to the home of Narciso and Rufina (Arias) Romero. He attended school in Puerto De Luna. As a young man in Puerto De Luna, Juan delivered coal from the Railroad Depot in Santa Rosa to the local bank and the Guadalupe County Courthouse. He was employed from 1952-1960 building homes with Rivera Construction; and worked as a welder for Clovis Stockyards from 1960-1976; from 1978-1990 he worked for the Guadalupe County Road Department. Juan married Clorinda Rivera on December 29, 1949 in Amarillo, TX. They made their home in Guadalupe County for many years before moving to Clovis in 1995. Juan is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Bertha Lucero in 2009; an infant sister and infant son; four sisters Josefina Romero, Rosa Gutierrez, Amalia Madrid, Tillie Romero; three brothers Secundino “Tito” Romero, Jose Aredon Armijo and Esmael Arias. Survivors include his wife of 60 years Clorinda Romero of the home in Clovis, NM; five sons Alfred Romero and wife Irene of Clovis; Edward Romero and wife Lilly of Clovis; Juan Romero Jr. of Clovis, NM; Joe Romero of Santa Rosa; Philix Romero and wife Nicole of Clovis, NM; six daughters Margarita Garcia and husband Mel of Clovis; Diane Chavez and husband Pat of Clovis; Christine Mundell and husband Gary of Dalhart, TX; Bernice Salazar and husband Kent of Rio Rancho; Eloise Romero of Clovis, NM; Andrea Romero and fiancé Ricky Ochoa of Levelland, TX; a brother, Tomas Romero of Los Angeles, CA; and sister Lucia Thomas of Clovis. Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday and Thursday from 1PM to 6PM at Chavez Funeral Home. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday, August 5, 2010 from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. The funeral Mass will celebrated at 10:00 AM Friday, August 6, 2010 from St. Rose of Lima with Father Joseph Thomas CMI officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, pallbearers will include Alfred Romero Jr., Christopher Romero, Gary Mundell, Arthur Lucero Jr., Michael Romero, Ronnie Romero, Dominique Lucero and Juan Romero III.
