Jose Roberto Urban

Jose Roberto Urban, 87 of Santa Rosa, NM died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the Guadalupe County Hospital following an illness. He was born March 30, 1923 in Colonias, NM to the home of Jose Brigido and Elvira (Martinez) Urban. Roberto married Antonia C. Gonzales on November 7, 1944 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anton Chico, NM. He retired after several years with the maintenance department of Truck Stops of America in Santa Rosa. Roberto was a lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church; a member of the Santa Rosa Senior Center where he enjoyed playing pool. He also enjoyed visiting the casinos and gardening. Roberto is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Antonia C. Urban in 1974; two infant daughters Laurabelle Urban in 1951 and Guadalupe Urban in 1962; two sisters Mary Urban in 1975, Edwina Urban in 1990 and a great-great-grandson Kaimen LaGrand Valverde in 2003. Survivors include his daughter and caretakers Mary Lou and husband Ernest Tapia of Santa Rosa; daughters Anna Marie Urban and fiance Joe Madrid of Santa Rosa; Elvie Urban-Salazar and companion Anthony Baca of Santa Rosa; four sons Joe Robert Urban and wife Darlean of Las Vegas; Richard Urban and wife Patsy of Commerce, OK; Roland Urban and companion Theresa Gonzales of Las Vegas; Rubin Urban and wife Patricia of Rio Rancho; Roberto's longtime companion Otilia Muniz of Santa Rosa; a brother Billy Urban and wife Vivian of Santa Rosa; five sisters Angie Kluess of Santa Rosa; Helen Urban of Santa Rosa; Katie Luna of Los Ranchos; Sister Rose A. Urban of Los Ranchos and Mickie Urban of Albuquerque. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchldren and 4 great-great-greatgrandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home and Monday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the church. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday, May 9, 2010 from St. Rose of Lima Parish. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday, May 10, 2010 with Father Joseph Thomas CMI officiating, burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Joseph Higgins, J.R. Urban, David Urban, Benjamin Gerhardt, Mark Salazar II, Joey Muniz, Ricky Muniz and Michael Muniz. Honorary bearers will include Antonia and Cristobal Lucero, Samantha, Cristobal II and Estevan Lucero, Amanda Tapia, Jennifer Higgins and all his grandchildren.
