Kay Cox, 69 a longtime Taiban, NM resident died Saturday, July 1, 2006 at her home following an illness. Kay was born May 17, 1937 in Magdalena, NM the daughter of James Edward Nourse and the former Ellena N. Davis. She was reared in Magdalena, NM where she attended school. Kay married Clifford “Skinny” Knoblock on February 9, 1957, he died in an accident in 1972. She married Joe Cox on September 3, 1977 in Fort Sumner. Kay worked as De Baca County District Court Clerk for five years, as manager of the Food Mart in Fort Sumner and later as Post Master at Taiban, NM until her retirement in 2002. Kay was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner where she taught Sunday school. She also served as a Girl Scout Leader for several years. Kay enjoyed sewing, pottery, and crafts. She was an excellent seamstress. Kay was preceded in death by her first husband Clifford Knoblock in 1972; her parents; and a sister Jacque Poor. Kay was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by her husband Joe Cox of the home in Taiban; two daughters Marikay Achen and husband J.O. of Yeso, NM; Carolyn Mowery and husband Robert of Caryville, TN; two grandchildren Casey Achen of Yeso and Kayla Achen of Las Cruces; three sisters Betty Melson of Denver, CO; Peggy Hutcherson of Holbrook, AZ; Bootsie Williams and husband Matt of Lemitar, NM; two brothers James “Buddy” Nourse and wife Denise of Los Lunas; and Jeff Nourse and wife Phyllis of Las Vegas, NM; and her mother in law Claudia Cox of Philadelphia, MS along with many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2006 from the First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner with Dan Craig officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Casey Achen, J.O. Achen, Jack Achen, Robert Mowery, Matt Williams, and Earl Turnbow. Honorary bearers will include Buddy Nourse, Eddie Nourse, Jeff Nourse, Claudie Foard, Hollis Duke, Amado Gallegos and Ed Womack. The family prefers memorial contributions to the Fort Sumner Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 180; Fort Sumner, NM 88119.
