Helen Lopez Sisneros, age 56, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on April 29, at her residence in Vaughn following a brief and couragous struggle with ovarian cancer. Helen was born on December 26, 1953 in Vaughn, NM to the home of Rumaldo and Ines (Serrano) Lopez. She was reared and attended schools in Vaughn. Helen married Andy Sisneros on August 22, 1970 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Clovis. Helen and Andy lived and had a daughter in Clovis where they stayed until the early 80's working at the Hotel Clovis, Bosco Hall, and as a Teachers Aide. In 1982 they moved to Albuquerque with a brief move to Rio Rancho and back to the city. Helen spent her time raising the children she babysat as well as her grandchildren and cooking for her loved ones. (No one made tortillas and sopapillas more often unless they actually worked in a restaurant.) Helen was the BEST cook and when anyone stopped by around supper time you could be sure they'd stick around for a plate. As she got visitors during her illness she always had a good sense of humor I remember her joking when someone asked where was a good place to eat she said laughing, "It used to be called "Helen's Kitchen"!" Everyone always thought she should open a small family diner and she would say I'm always in the kitchen as it is. In 2003 they made their home in Vaughn where she continued to help raised her babies. She loved going to the casino to play the slot machines, dancing with the love of her life, spending time with friends, but most important she loved spending time with the people she loved especially her daughter and grandchildren. One of her favorite things to do was just sit and talk on the porch with her parents and other loved ones.
