Cesaria S Aragon

Cesaria S. Aragon was born November 12, 1913 to Frank Silva and Luz Spitz in Ft. Sumner New Mexico. She passed away July 31, 2006 in Las Vegas, NM. Cesaria attended school in Ft. Sumner. She began teaching at Alamorgordo Lake in a one-room schoolhouse where she lived and worked soon after her graduation from high school. She briefly attended school at Eastern New Mexico University, University of New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands University. In 1942 she met and married the late Gregorio Aragon of Santa Rosa. Cesaria moved to Santa Rosa with her husband as soon as he returned from Europe following the end of World War II. Shortly after her relocation to Santa Rosa Cesaria began teaching in the Guadalupe County School District. She taught in the one and two-room schoolhouses in Puerto de Luna, Cuervo and Pastura. When the school districts consolidated she began teaching in Santa Rosa where she became one of the pioneer “Special Education Teachers.” Throughout this period of time she was attending New Mexico Highlands University where she received her Bachelors degree. She ended her teaching career as a math teacher at the Santa Rosa Middle School after thirty years of service. After her retirement she became active in various social organizations which included the Santa Rosa Garden Club, The Literary Club and the Senior Citizens Organization. Although she never sought or filled public office she was very proud of the fact that she never missed a meeting of the Santa Rosa City Council after her retirement. She is preceded in death by her husband the late Gregorio Aragon who was a native of Santa Rosa and who served as a New Mexico State Representative, School Board member for Santa Rosa Consolidated Schools and her brother Chano Silva. She is survived by her four children, J. Greg Aragon Jr. and wife Rita of Edmond OK, Francisco “Frank” Aragon and his wife Phyliss of Grove, OK, daughter Anna M. Aragon of Las Vegas, New Mexico and daughter, Angelica Conseen and husband Don of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Cesaria is also survived by nine grandchildren, J. Greg Aragon III, J. Bill Aragon, Francisco “Frankie” Aragon, Anastacsia “Kasey” Chatfield, Anna “De’Anna” Lovato, Samuel J. Martinez III, Daniel Aragon, Damien Aragon, Donica Conseen and sixteen great-children. Cremation has taken place and a rosary will be recited on Wednesday, August 2, at 7:00 PM from St. Rose of Lima Church in Santa Rosa. Memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 3, at 10:00 AM also from St. Rose of Lima Church with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial of cremians was held in the family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery, Fort Sumner, New Mexico with Father Jerry Johnson officiating. Pall bearers will be J. Greg Aragon III, J. Bill Aragon, Francisco “Frankie” Aragon, Samuel J. Martinez III, Daniel Aragon and Damien Aragon.
