Lena C. Borquez, age 76, passed away on February 21, 2010 at her home in Tucumcari following an illness. Lena was born on May 3, 1933 in Dalhart, TX to the home of Cesario and Virginia Solano Mascarenas. She was reared in Tucumcari where she attended St. Anne’s Catholic School. Lena married Raymond Borquez on August 16, 1950 at the St. Anne’s Church in Tucumcari. Lena was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, she was also actively involved in the community where she was a member of the BPOE Does #210 where she served as President in 2003, the Tucumcari VFW Auxiliary, the Logan American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hats Society. She loved to crochet, read, play bingo and the slots and she was an excellent cook. Lena owned and operated Lena’s Café for many years. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughters; Grace Madrid and Kathy Borquez, her brothers; Isiah Mascarenas and Juan Garcia and her grandson; Jason Pacheco. Survivors include her husband Raymond of the family home in Tucucmari, her children; Jimmy Borquez and wife Elmira of Tucumcari, Raymond Borquez, Jr. of Tucumcari, Theresa Callahan and husband Ken of Albuquerque, Christine Pacheco of Tucumcari, Hope Ortiz and husband Freddy of Tucumcari, her son in law; Alex Madrid of Tucumcari. Also surviving are her sisters; Margaret Lujan and husband David of Fruitland, NM , Betty Galvan of Amarillo, TX, sister in law; Tillie Lucero of Tucumcari, 23 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, a host of relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 starting at 4:00 from St. Anne’s Catholic Church, rosary services will follow at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 11:00 AM also from St. Anne’s Church. Burial will follow at Tucumcari Memorial Park. Serving as Pallbearers will be Gilbert Diaz, Bob White, Kelly Smith, Ernest Paiz, Danny Mares and Vic Baum. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Lena’s grandchildren and Jake Martinez.
