Kim Duane Nahlovsky, 53 a former Fort Sumner resident died July 11, 2006 in San Francisco, CA. He was born February 2, 1953 in LaRochelle, France the son of Duane “Ski” Nahlovsky and the former Mary Frances “Fran” Anderson. He attended school at Ranchvale and Melrose where he graduated in 1971. While at Melrose he participated in the High School Band. Kim and his grandmother, Gretchen Nahlovsky operated the Fina Truck Stop Restaurant east of Fort Sumner for several years. He later attended cosmetology school at Roswell. He worked as a hairdresser in Roswell, Ruidoso and Fort Sumner. He made his home in San Francisco in 1989 where he worked as a home health care provider and also worked in the commercial delivery business. He kept his membership at Melrose Methodist Church. Kim was a past Boy Scout Leader. He loved music, enjoyed cooking and loved caring for animals. According to his family he also dabbled in oil art painting. Kim was preceded in death by his father Duane “Ski” Nahlovsky; his paternal grandmother Gretchen Nahlovsky; and maternal grandparents George and Lizzie Anderson. He is survived by his mother Fran Nahlovsky of Fort Sumner; a sister Kay Stout and husband David of Edgewood; and a brother Keith Nahlovsky and wife Kathy of San Diego, CA. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place in San Francisco, California. A memorial service will be held in Fort Sumner at a later date.
