Violet McCowan, 88 a longtime Santa Rosa resident and business owner died Sunday, April 19, 2009 at St. John's Healthcare Center in Albuquerque following an illness. Violet was born May 17, 1920 in Nilwood, Illinois to the home of James Alexander Light and the former Nancy Ann Rose. She attended grade school and high school at Tallula, Illinois. She married Leo McCowan in 1950 in Saudi Arabia. They made their home in Santa Rosa where they owned and operated the Saharah Lounge in Santa Rosa for many years. Violet retired in 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo McCowan; her parents; two brothers Robert Light and Louis Light; four sisters Louise Jenkins, Iva Bergfeld, Helen Livingston, and Mary Jean Light. Survivors include one brother John light and his wife Carol of Beaverton, Oregon. Cremation will take place. Memorial services are pending.
