Encarnacion Madrid

Encarnacion “China” Lopez Madrid passed away on May 27, 2006 at La Posada in Las Cruces. She was born in Los Ojitos, New Mexico on February 18, 1914, to Celestino and Elauteria Lopez, and lived fifty-five years in Santa Rosa. During a long life, she worked in the cotton fields of west Texas and the restaurants and motels of Santa Rosa. She took care of children for many area families, and was a home health care worker for the elderly. She was the mother of four children, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. She was unfailingly generous and hospitable to friends and strangers alike. Her family will especially miss her warmth, sense of humor, and wonderful green chile and fried potatoes. She is survived by her daughter Ramona Micelli of Las Cruces, son and daughter-in-law Richard and Rita Gutierrez of Albuquerque, daughter and son-in-law Gloria and Roy Anderson of Roswell, and daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth “Annie” Gutierrez and Don Kurtz of Las Cruces. Her grandchildren include Rachel Terry of Las Cruces; Jeannie Gutierrez of Evanston, Illinois; Anthony Micelli of Santa Rosa; Dennis Micelli of Phoenix, Arizona; Frances Gallegos of Santa Rosa; Toni Micelli, of Corpus Christi, Texas; Sam Micelli, of Las Cruces; Ricky, Randy, and Rodney Gutierrez of Albuquerque; Angel Marez of Albuquerque; Bill Anderson of Las Cruces; Cindy Derrick of Oklahoma City, and Robert Racel Jr., of Daytona Beach, Florida. She was one of fourteen children, and is survived by four brothers, Flavio, Joe, Celestino, and Clemente Lopez, and one sister, Emma Vigil. China had a deep faith in God, and was a member of the Santa Rosa de Lima parish for over fifty years. Rosary services will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at 7:00 from St. Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 1, 2006 at 10:00 AM also from St. Rose Church with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Nuestra Senora de Refugio Cemetery in Puerto De Luna. All services are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
