Stella Lopez

Stella Lopez, age 83, passed away on March 17, 2010 at Clovis High Plains Hospital. Stella was born on February 13, 1927 in Denver, CO, to the home of Nicolas and Stella (Maestas) Martinez. She was reared in El Valle which is close to Newkirk. Stella married Gavino Lopez on July 8, 1946 in Santa Rosa. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, the Carmelitas, the Christian Mothers and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. Stella was a perfectionist. She love taking care of her cats, crocheting, yard sales and baked the best raw apple cake. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gavino Lopez, sister; Annie Medina and brother; Ismael Martinez. Survivors include her children; John Lopez and wife Ricky, Linda Harris and significant other Joey Apodaca, grandchildren; Connie York and husband Rick, Johnny Edward Lopez and wife Alma, Shanowah Harris, Col. Ronnie Harris, Jr. and wife Mary, David Quintana, Jr. and wife Lupita and Eddie Harris. Also surviving are her sisters; Julie Lopez and husband Art, Mary Lou Fuelwyler and husband Benny, brother; Robert Martinez and wife Anita all of California along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Monday, March 21, at 10:00 AM from St. Anne’s Church in Tucumcari. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM also from St. Anne’s Church with Father Hyginus Anuta officiating. Burial will follow at the Tucumcari Memorial Park along with the cremains of her husband Gavino. Serving as Pallbearers will be; Albert Lopez, Johnny Lopez, Connie York, Shanowah Harris, Col. Ronnie Harris, Gilbert Pacheco and Eddie Harris. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be all her great grandchildren.
