Joseph Anderson Kyle, 76 a longtime De Baca County Cattle rancher died Wednesday, December 1, 1999 at his home in Fort Sumner following an illness. Joe was born July 18, 1923 in Brownfield, TX to the home of Francis Raymond Kyle and the former Edna Mary Walters. He was reared and attended school in Brownfield. Joe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Joe married Ethel Mae Wilson on January 10, 1951 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. He worked on area ranches including 15 years on the Phillip Reeves Ranch, 15 years on the Ben Good Jr. Ranch, and 19 years on the Cooper-Erdwerm Ranch. He retired and moved into Fort Sumner in the fall of 1992. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Joe loved to ranch and enjoyed the Rodeo and going to ropings. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Ethel M. Kyle of the home in Fort Sumner; a son Glen and wife Venita Kyle of Santa Rosa; daughter Linda Lou Kyle of Clovis; three brothers Dub and wife Delpha Kyle of Winslow, Arizona; Jack Kyle of Yukon, Oklahoma; V.G. “Red” and wife Leila Kyle of Fort Sumner; two sisters-in-law Estelene and husband Charlie Brady of Clovis; Clodell McCloud of Farmington. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 3, 1999 from the First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner with Rev. Monty Leavell officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memory, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 1pm to 6pm at Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner. Pallbearers will be Tom Johnson, Charles Good, Knox Cortese, Gary Good, Mike Pettigrew, C.W. Grissom, Bill Filener, and Bob Tabb. Honorary bearers will be all his many friends. The family prefers memorials to the Fort Sumner Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 180, Fort Sumner, NM 88119, in memory of Joe Kyle. All arrangements entrusted to Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner.
