Marcus Sewell Harwell

d. May 1, 2000

A Remembrance Celebration and Internment of cremains for Marcus Sewell Harwell and Anne Lois Lobley Harwell will be held at the Fort Sumner Cemetery on Sunday, July 1, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. by their children, Marka Anne Harwell-Bentley, Marcus David Harwell and Christopher Robert Harwell. Numerous family and friends are planning to be there and all are welcome. Mark (Sewell) and Anne met in Fort Sumner when they were in the 2nd grade. They were married in the Fort Sumner Valley in 1938 at the home of Anne’s parents, Mr. & Mrs. W.D. Lobley. Survivors include their three children; Marka, Marcus, and Christopher; Mark’s sister, Flossie Cope of Searcy, AK; and Anne’s brothers, Bill Lobley of Albuquerque; Edwin Lobley of Fort Wayne, IN, and Carl Lobley of Tucson, AZ; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. After graduating from Fort Sumner High School and marriage, Mark and Anne spent a few years in California, where Mark was employed by the US Army Corps of Engineers and where his two children were born. They then returned to Fort Sumner and Mark was drafted into the US Army Air Corps. When he was released from the military, they and their two children went to Abilene, TX where they attended Abilene Christian College for three years. Mark spent his professional life as a civil engineer, a plumbing contractor, in construction and in Water and Wastewater Management, frequently returning to his first love of raising Channel Catfish. A third child was born to them in 1951 at Roswell, NM. They lived for many years in California, and then spent their last years in Safford, AZ. Anne was a talented, creative mother and was always in demand as a musician, wherever they went. Their unswerving faith in God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ were present throughout their loving marriage, which lasted for over 61 years. Anne preceded Mark in death in January 2000. Mark followed her soon in May of 2000. They are greatly missed. Local arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner, NM. (505) 355-2311.
