Tommie Thelma Scott, 84, of Fort Sumner died Tuesday, September 28, 1999 at her home. Mrs. Scott was born September 26, 1915 in Razor, Texas to the home of Thomas Jefferson Davis and the former Effie Lour Short. She was raised at Forrest Chapel, TX where she attended school. She married Kenneth Scott on December 23, 1937 in Paris, Texas. Together they worked on ranches in Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. They made their home north of Fort Sumner on the Walton ranch in 1957 and remained until the ranch sold in the early 1970’s. At that time they moved to Hillsboro, NM and later to the San Cristobal Ranch at Lamy, NM where they ranched until their retirement. They made their home in Fort Sumner in 1994. Tommie enjoyed fishing, and her flower gardens. She was a loving wife, mother, and a friend to every person she met. She was a member of the NM Cowbelles and a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. Tommie was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Ruth Davis in 1980, Anne Mackley in 1987, and a brother Albert David in 1993. Survivors include her husband of 61 years Kenneth Scott of the home in Fort Sumner; a son Kenneth Mack Scott of Denver City, TX; two grandchildren Kenneth Andrew Scott of Knottingham, England; and Samantha Scott of Olathe, Colorado; one sister Clara Davis Murley of Paris, Texas, along with a host of good friends. Graveside funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 1999 from the Fort Sumner Cemetery with Mr. Skip Clark officiating. Pallbearers will include A.J. Hardin, Aaron Hardin, Richard Vetterly, Ralph York, Bobby Lopez, and Flea Wood. Visitation will be Friday from 1pm to 6pm and Saturday from 10am to 3pm at the Chavez Funeral Home 804 North Fifth Street in Fort Sumner, NM.
