Ralph Muncy, 83 a longtime Taos, NM rancher died Wednesday, November 6, 2002 at Northeastern Regional Medical Center in Las Vegas, NM following an illness. Mr. Muncy was born October 22, 1919 in Lovington, NM to the home of John Lee Muncy and the former Sallie Ida Watkins. He was reared and attended school at Eunice. Ralph served in the United States ARMY, he was an infantryman with Compny H, 7th Division. His military occupation was as a Heavy Machine Gunner, he was a section leader for a 30 caliber machine gun section. His duties included supervising and placing of the guns and directed their fire. He served in the Central Pacific, Aleutian Islands and Eastern Mandates. He received the Purple Heart on August 10, 1945 and also received the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on September 22, 1945 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his tour of duty, Ralph worked for Boeing Aircraft as a welder in Wichita, Kansas for seven years. He later moved to Taos, NM where he worked as a cowboy for many years. Ralph was a wood worker, a builder and organizer who according to his family had a very creative mind. Ralph made his home at Los Amigos Care Center in Santa Rosa in November 2001. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Rosalie Garton and Bertha Daniel and one brother Lawrence Muncy. Survivors include a brother Everet Muncy of Santa Rosa; a sister Beulah Ballard of Westlaco, Texas; three nieces Roslyn Hamby of Carbondale, CA; Billie Marie Ballard of Dallas, TX; and Polly Robinson of Santa Rosa, NM; one nephew Orville Ballard of Kingsville, TX. Other survivors include several great-nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a memorial services will be held at a later date in Santa Rosa. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa.
