Argie Mitchell, 77, of Taiban, NM died Wednesday, February 28, 2001 at Plains Regional Medical Center following an illness. Argie was born April 11, 1923 at House, NM to the home of William Young Mitchell and Cora Pearl Nelson. She was reared at House and was a member of House Methodist Church. She loved embroidery and playing cards. She also loved to “boss” her nieces and nephews. Following hip surgery in 1991, she made her home in the Pecos Valley Care Center at Fort Sumner for two years. Since 1993 she made her home at Retirement Ranch in Clovis. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister Mary Griggs in 1943; three brothers, Orville Mitchell who died as a child; Glenn Mitchell in 1985; and Hugh Mitchell in 1997. Survivors include one sister Kate Franklin and her husband Bob of Taiban, NM; three brothers George Mitchell and wife Clydetta of Muleshoe, Texas; Herman Mitchell and wife Pauline of Clovis, NM; W.Y. Mitchell and wife Della of Clovis, NM. Also surviving are 23 nieces and nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 2, 2001 at the Methodist Church in House, New Mexico with Argie’s nephews, Gary Mitchell and Leon Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at House Cemetery. Her nephews Garland Griggs, Bill Mitchell, Brian Mitchell, Brent Mitchell, James Whitecotton, and Kenny Whitecotton will serve as pallbearers. The family prefers memorials be sent in Argie Mitchell’s memory to House Methodist Church or a Children’s Home. All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner.
