Ermalinda (Linda) Romero Maes born December 28, 1928 in Encino N.M. returned to her Heavenly Father on December 7, 2009, following a 12-year battle with illness. She is preceded, in death by her loving parents Lee and Rosie Romero, brothers: Albert and Alfred Romero, sister Lucille Gomez, nieces: Juanita Romero and Rosie Romero, Jimmy Johnson, father of her sons :Bill and Melvin Johnson, Joe Maes father of her daughter Brenda Maes- Encinias and companion of 20 years, Joe I. (Cho-Cho) Martinez.. Linda resided with her daughter Brenda and husband Jeff, granddaughters Nina and Martika, great granddaughter Lacey Starr and the family pets Lil’ Guy and Sugar. All the family moments they shared will be greatly missed as she was a very important part of their lives. Linda is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Brothers, Joe Romero and wife Vicky from Albuquerque, Toney Romero and wife Alice of Santa Fe and Willie Romero and wife Pauline of Estancia, Brother in law Phil Gomez of Santa Fe. Sister Berna Marez and husband Bobby of Silver City. Two Uncles Florian Romero of Moriarty and Joe Marquez and wife Connie of Santa Fe. Aunt Carmen Romero of Santa Fe. Four God-Children, Dorothy Artheche of Rio Rancho, Maria Chavez of Portales, Nina Encinias of Santa Rosa and Joseph Martinez of Colorado. Other special people in her life, David, Sandy, Brian, Loretta and Danielle Sanchez , Dixie Baca, Randy Saiz and Salvador Sambrano. She leaves behind many beloved family members and friends too numerous to name, as she was a very outgoing person. After her stroke in 1997,Linda was not able to get around easily and found great pleasure in writing letters and sending greeting cards. She especially enjoyed picking out “just the right card” for every occasion. She enjoyed shopping and found great pleasure in buying for others. Linda was raised in Palma NM, attended schools in Encino, Moriarty and Trinidad Co. She quit school at age 14 to help her family out. She worked as a waitress and cashier in many places. She retired in 1996, her final job was at the Club Café. She ran for County Clerk in Torrance County in the 60’s and lost by a minimal vote. She participated in many County Fairs winning ribbons on her delicious bread n butter pickles. She loved to embroider, was a great cook and a wonderful housekeeper, She was always busy and never liked being idle. She would help her mother, grandmother, family, friends and whoever was in need of a helping hand. Linda was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, and always attended mass despite her ability until recently when she was unable to attend due to her illness. Pallbearers especially selected by Linda to assist her to her final resting place are: Robert Romero, William Romero, Andrew Gomez, Jack Maes, Lee Romero, Adam Gallegos, David Sanchez, Eddie Gomez. Honorary Pallbearers are Brian Sanchez, Marcella Lasher, Dorothy Arteche, friends and family. Rosary services will be held on Friday, December, 11 at 7:00 PM from Nuestra Senora de Refugio Church in Puerto De Luna. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 12, at 10:00 AM also from Nuestra Senora de Refugio Church with Father Joseph Thomas, CMI officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. All services for Mrs. Maes have been entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa. www.chavezfuneralhome.com
