Jose Arturo Velasquez 84, died May 1, 2006 at his home, surrounded by his family. Born to Juan and Elena Velasquez on July 10, 1921, he served in the United States Army from 1942 till 1946. Arturo married Esmeralda Aragon on July 17, 1946, retired in 1983 from the New Mexico State Hospital. Arturo was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Elena Velasquez, two sons Johnny and Jimmy Velasquez, four brothers Trinidad, Gilbert, Lorenzo and Jose Velasquez and his sister Maria Marquez, his Grandson Diego Pablo Velasquez and a great-granddaughter Raina Baca Surviving Arturo his wife of 60 years Esmeralda, two sons Delfinio Velasquez and wife Mariana, Pablo Velasquez and wife Ana, both from La Loma NM. Four daughters Maria (Agnes) Mancha, husband Porfirio Sr. from Tucumcari, NM, Terry Romero husband Adolfo from La Loma, NM, Ambrosita Jaramillo husband Joe from Las Vegas NM, Helen Baca husband John from Tucumcari NM, daughters-in-law, Mary Jane Chavez and husband Arthur Chavez, Frances Velasquez Y Gallegos husband Frank both from Santa Rosa NM. Two brothers David Velasquez wife Mary Lou from Santa Rosa NM, Cayetano Velasquez wife Beatrice from Denver, Colorado. His Sister Vitalia Salas husband Tito from Albuquerque NM, His sisters in law, Monica Velasquez from Albuquerque and Rita Velasquez from Anton Chico. Also surviving him are 18 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. Pallbearers are Porfirio Jr. Mancha, Ruben Romero, Julian Velasquez, Joseph Jaramillo and Gabriel Baca, Zachary Velasquez. Honorary pallbearers are his Godchildren and Grandchildren Tito Montoya, Tomas Romo, and Antonio Velasquez Sr. and Eloy Saiz, Cynthia and Corine Mancha, Rebecca Velasquez, Karmen Velasquez and Gabriela Insaurte, Hope Martinez, Jennifer and Sandy Velasquez, Bersabella Romero, Stephanie Jaramillo, and Vanessa Baca. Rosary services will be conducted on Thursday, May 4, at 7:00 from St. Joseph Church in Anton Chico. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 5, at 11:00 AM also from St. Joseph Church with Father Jerry Johnson Officiating. Burial will follow at the Upper Anton Chico Cemetery.
