Clifford Roland Gouge, 71 of Melrose, died Sunday, September 30, 2001 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis following an illness. Mr. Gouge was born July 5, 1930 in Lubbock, Texas to the home of Joseph Joshua Gouge and the former Ida Elizabeth Majors. He was reared at Lubbock, TX until the age of 14 when his family moved to Roswell, NM and later to Amarillo, TX. Clifford worked as a handyman. He was a veteran of World War II. Clifford made his home in Melrose in 1983 where he attended the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed music, rodeos, and dancing. He loved his nephews and nieces. Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Everett, Norman, Alvin and Robert, and one sister Naomi Gouge. Survivors include one sister Dorothy Northrup of Melrose; many nieces and nephews including Patricia Northrup of Melrose; Eric Northrup of Arco, Idaho; Gary Northrup of Clovis; and Bea Prather of Bovina, Texas. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 3, 2001 from the Melrose Cemetery with Rev. Coy Brewer, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner officiating. Pallbearers will be Gary Northrup, Darrell Bishop, David Bishop, John Nelson, Roby Northrup, Billy Northrup, Pecos Prather, and Jim Bob Prather. Honorary bearers will be all his friends at Melrose Tire Service. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10AM to 6PM at the Chavez Funeral Home. The casket will be open at the service. The family prefers memorials to the charity of one’s choice in Clifford’s memory. Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home in Fort Sumner.
