Alice Crawford, 74, a resident of Lake Sumner, NM died Wednesday, September 29, 1999 at her home following an illness. Mrs. Crawford was born January 16, 1925 in Jackson County, Kentucky to the home of Joseph and Ora Mae Reiling. She was reared and attended school in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was employed with Proctor & Gamble for four years, worked as a bank teller in Clearwater, FL for eight years. While living in Florida Alice attended a business school. She later worked as a bookkeeper for Ray Bell Oil Company for several years. She owned and operated a trailer park in Deming, NM. Alice married Curtis Crawford on November 25, 1976 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home at Lake Sumner in 1982. Alice was a volunteer with the Lake Sumner Fire Department for several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner where she and Curtis served as custodians. Her parents; and a sister Mary Rhoden preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband Curtis of the home at Lake Sumner; a daughter Joan Miller Ehlert of Dallas, Texas; a sister Eva Savage of Holiday, Florida along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 1, 1999 from the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner. Rev. Bob Brittain will officiate. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include C.O. Brady, Gerald Don Cortese, Nick Cortese, Burton Dickerman, David Drennan, and Jake West. Honorary bearers will be Bill Franks, Dan Wilson, Leslie Armstrong, and Bill Hollen. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999 from 1pm to 6pm at Chavez Funeral Home. All arrangements entrusted to Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner.
