Jose P Aguilar

Jose Pelagio Aguilar, 91 a longtime La Loma, NM resident died Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at Paloma Blanca Nursing Center in Albuquerque following an extended illness. Jose was born April 18, 1910 in La Loma, NM to the home of Antonio Aguilar and the former Rosa Martinez. He was reared and attended school at La Loma. He grew up working in the fields of West Texas and Rocky Ford, Colorado. Jose later worked as a cook on a sheep ranch near Vaughn, NM. He enjoyed the time spent with his family and friends. Jose was a loving father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife Reneta Martinez in 1995; a son Antonio Aguilar in 1993; a grandson Raymond Aguilar in 1994, and a son-in-law Jerry Salas in 1984, a sister Paulita Marquez a brother Jesus Aguilar, and an infant daughter Mariquita Aguilar, He is survived by a daughter Ramona Salas of Albuquerque; sons, Carlos Aguilar and wife Frances of Albuquerque, Joe Aguilar Jr. and wife Carol of Albuquerque; two grandsons he raised Pablo Aguilar and his fiancé Debbie, and Joaquin Aguilar and wife Liz all of Las Vegas, NM. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and many friends. Rosary services were held at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, February 28, 2002 from the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Santa Rosa, NM. A second rosary was held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, March 1, 2002 from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anton Chico, NM; Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated from St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 2, 2002 with Father Patrick Duffy officiating. Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Anton Chico. Pallbearers were Adrian Aguilar, Isaac Aguilar, A.J. Aguilar, Chris Aguilar, Junior Aguilar, and Albert Sedillo. Honorary bearers were all his granddaughters.
