Luis Nestor Archuleta, age 80 of Fort Sumner, NM and formerly of Pojoaque, NM died Sunday, November 15, 2009 at his Fort Sumner home with his family at his bedside. Luis was born October 25, 1929 in La Jara, Colorado the son of Eduardo Archuleta and the former Virginia Roybal. Luis moved with his parents to Pojoaque from La Jara when he was 11. He attended school in Pojoaque. Luis served two years in the U.S. Army, 4th Army. He was inducted on March 6, 1951 and honorably discharged on February 17, 1953. He received the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star and the United Nations Service Medal. Luis married Regina Gallegos at Sacred Heart Parish in Espanola, NM on February 5, 1955. Luis worked as a mechanic in Pojoaque for many years. In 1994 Luis and Regina made their home in Fort Sumner, NM where Luis was employed for 10 years with the Pecos Valley Nursery, a tree farm located in the Fort Sumner Valley. Luis was a lifelong Catholic and an active member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. He was also a member of K of C Council 8331 in Fort Sumner and Sacred Heart Society in Nambe, NM. Luis is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Felicia Archuleta; a brother Adelmo Archuleta; one sister Anna Maria Martinez; a sister in law Henrietta Alarid, and a brother in law Lorenzo Gallegos. Survivors include his wife Regina Archuleta of the home in Fort Sumner; five daughters Monica Valdez and husband John of Nambe; Rosabelle Valdez and husband Leo of Espanola; Margie Moore and husband Bill of Hernandez; Regina Garcia and husband Tony of Albuquerque; Jessica Archuleta of Pojoaque; three sons Tim Archuleta and wife Deborah of Fort Sumner; Marcos Archuleta and wife Josie of Pojoaque; Ramon Archuleta and wife Eve of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are five brothers Edward Archuleta and wife Angie of Pojoaque; Joe Archuleta and wife Mary of Cochiti Lake; Johnny Archuleta and wife Elvira of Pojoaque; Danny Archuleta and wife Angela of Santa Cruz; Alonso Archuleta of Pojoaque; two sisters Carmen Griego and husband Tony of Santa Fe; Lucy Gonzales and husband Gilbert of Pojoaque; a sister in law Isabel Archuleta of Pojoaque; Rosella Martinez of Chimayo; Josephine Aquino of San Juan; Ida Spagnola and husband John of Santa Fe; brother in law Robert Gallegos and wife Alice of Santa Cruz; Betty Anzaldua and husband Ruben of Hernandez; Alice Staley and husband Floyd of Santa Monica, CA; 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A rosary vigil service will be held at 6:30 pm Monday, November 16, 2009 from St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church in Fort Sumner, NM. Visitation will be held beginning at 5:00 pm Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque with a rosary led by Sagrado Corazon de Jesus following at 7:00 pm. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday, November 19, 2009 from Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pojoaque, NM with Father Jim Sumtum officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cemetery in Pojoaque. Pallbearers will be Leo Roybal, Jonathan Valdez, Christopher Archuleta, David Archuleta, Ray Garcia, Aaron Lujan, Edward Sanchez and Julian Sanchez. Honorary bearers will include Matthew Archuleta, Eric Archuleta and Miguel Sanchez. Following the services a reception will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Hall.
