Elizabeth Ann Fincke, 92 a lifelong resident of Fort Sumner died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Roosevelt General Hospital following an illness. Ann was born August 27, 1917 in Fort Sumner to the home of Marion Pembroke and Agnes (Fischer) Carr. She was reared and attended schools in Fort Sumner. She attended the University of New Mexico where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She worked for the family business Carr Lumber Company during and following her school years. Ann taught school in Fort Sumner. Following the tragic death of her twin brother William “Bill” Carr , Ann again operated the Carr Lumber Company until the business was sold. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner; a member of the Fort Sumner Library Board, past member of the De Baca County Chamber of Commerce and the Old Fort Days Committee. More recently she was a member of the YaYa’s and the Fort Sumner Art Guild. She was an accomplished artist and loved to paint. Ann was preceded in death by her husband Jim Fincke on January 28, 1994; her parents M.P. and Agnes Carr, a sister Carmen Carr Denison and a twin brother William “Bill” Carr on October 6, 1976. Survivors include a son Jim Fincke and wife Carol of Los Alamos, NM; three grandchildren Stephanie Ann Fincke of Albuquerque; Brian James Fincke of Los Alamos and Christopher James Fincke of Los Alamos. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 5, 2010 from the First United Methodist Church in Fort Sumner with Pastor Keith Niehaus and Rev. Monty Leavell officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chase Carr, Brian Fincke, Christopher Fincke, Randy Mansell, Pamela Nuttall, Binto Stallard, Bill West and Charles West. Honorary bearers will be the Ya Ya’s The casket will be closed at the funeral service. Friends may visit Chavez Funeral Home on Friday from 11AM to 6PM.
