Raymond “Gene” Foster, 76 of Fort Sumner died Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM following an illness. Gene was born May 8, 1933 in Amarillo, TX to the home of Frank Howard Foster and the former Hattie Jeanette Larimore. He was reared in Fort Sumner and spent his early years in Amarillo and Vega, TX. Gene married Patsy McConnell on December 23, 1968. Gene worked in Plano, TX for a boat manufacturer for several years; he also worked as a wheat harvester, a mail route carrier and for several years he drove a truck. Gene enjoyed spending time every day visiting with his friends at Addison Drug Store in Fort Sumner. Gene is preceded in death by his wife Patsy in 2001; his parents; four brothers Jack, Jim, George and Charles; three sisters Elsie Jane Huddleston, Ruby Vance and Frances Speed. Survivors include two sons Scott (Penny) Foster of Clovis, NM; Stephen (Melanie) Foster of Albuquerque; a granddaughter Hanna Bishop of Clovis; three brothers Dick (Cora) Foster of Fort Sumner; John (Jane) Foster of Georgia; Bill Foster of Roswell; one sister Dolly (Bill) Vennum of Roswell, NM. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services were held at 1:00 PM Friday, December 11, 2009 from the family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery with Anna Teeter officiating.
