Leon Gregory, 88 of Fort Sumner, NM died Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM following an illness. Leon was born May 17, 1918 in Hominy, Oklahoma to the home of Audie Lee Gregory and the former Susan Pearl Lackey. Leon’s family moved to Carlsbad, NM when he was three, he attended and graduated from school in Carlsbad. Following graduation he worked in the Potash Mines for several years. He also worked as a mine consultant to RAIDER of London, England traveling throughout South America evaluating mine operations. After his mining career he made his home in the Fort Sumner valley where he farmed and ranched. His hobbies included working on motors and “fixing things” . Leon was preceded in death by a son Larry Anthony Gregory; three sisters Grace Fuson, Lila Porter, Eulema Gregory, two brothers Audie Lee Gregory and Jack Thomas Gregory. His survivors include his wife Nikki Lou Gregory of the home in Fort Sumner; a son Mike Gregory of Las Vegas, NM; daughter Susan Gregory of Farmington; two stepsons Sam Boyd of Fort Sumner and Curtis Boyd of Corpus Christi, TX; a brother Wayne Gregory and a sister Shirley McNabb both of Carlsbad. Other survivors include five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2006 from the First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner, NM with Rev. Coy Brewer officiating. Cremation has taken place.
