Raymond Jack Rich

February 18, 1925 — November 7, 2005

Raymond Jack Rich, age 80 of Florence, Colorado died Monday, November 07, 2005 at Hildebrand Care Center in Canon City, Colorado following an illness. Jack was born February 18, 1925 in Childress, Texas to the home of George Archie Rich and the former Georgia A. Turrentine. He was reared and attended school at Welmon, Texas. Jack married Marie Erven on August 11, 1950 at Raton, New Mexico. Jack served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged on August 18, 1944. Jack worked as a farmer and cowboy, and later as a heavy equipment operator working road construction. For several years he also worked as a garage mechanic for Ford. He worked at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, NM and retired from Civil Service in 1976. Jack was a charter member of Oak Creek Southern Baptist Church in Rockvale, Colorado and a member of the D.A.V. Post in Florence, CO and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers T.J. and Miller Rich; four sisters Audie Carter, Annie Ossola, Tommie Orthman, and Leata Standefer. Survivors include his wife Marie Erven Rich of Florence, Colorado; three sisters Edith Emerson of Colorado, Orabelle Yocum Jeffries of Texas, and Maxine Brackett of Oklahoma along with many nieces, and nephews including Brenda Rall of Florence, Colorado. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2005 from the family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery, Fort Sumner, New Mexico with Rev. Coy Brewer officiating. Pallbearers will be Jeff Pyle, Joe Rall, Eddie Ratliff, Brent Ratliff, Mike Cortese, and Charles Jones. Graveside military honors will be provided by the U.S NAVY Honor Guard.
