Viola Griego

Viola P. Griego, 59 of Fort Sumner, NM died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Texas Specialty Hospital in Lubbock, TX following a short illness. Viola was born July 17, 1949 in Lubbock, TX the daughter of Nieves and Beatrice (Garcia) Pena. She graduated from High School in Lubbock. She made her home in Fort Sumner in 1994. Viola married Juan Griego on May 4, 1996 in Fort Sumner. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where she taught CCD to the youth of the parish. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren; crocheting and making crafts, she made many crocheted dolls. She also enjoyed metal detecting and loved to dance. Viola was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband Juan Griego of the home in Fort Sumner three daughters Rebecca Morgan and husband Sean of New Hampshire; Kerrilyn Webb and husband Paul of Fort Sumner; Christine Gauna of Vaughn, NM; three sons Scott Mackey and wife Lisa of Clovis; Peter Mackey and wife Kathleen of Rhode Island and Kurt Griego and wife Samantha of Fort Sumner. Also surviving are three sisters Helen Garcia of Lubbock, TX; Lori Ann Bishop of Georgia and her twin Martha Black of Fort Sumner; five brothers Gilbert Pena, Freddy Pena, Joe David Pena all of Lubbock; Felix Pena of Farmington, NM and Rudy Pena of California along with 15 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many friends. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 pm Monday, January 19, 2009 from St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner. Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 noon Tuesday, January 20, 2009 from the church with Father Tom Diebel of Lubbock, TX officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Emilio Gauna, Steven Gauna, Sean Morgan, Petey Lucero, Michael Lucero and Simon Lucero. Honorary bearers will be all her family and friends.
